Meet Julie Avena
Julie Avena is a tantric educator, certified clinical herbalist and nutritionist, reiki practioner, shamanic healer, ordained minister, teacher, mother and performing artist.

A Personal Note:
My life has been guided by a passion for sacred sexuality, healing, and spirituality. My training as a healer began at a young age, being gifted with psychic sensitivity, paranormal awareness and a strong intuition. When I was 10 years old my mother and grandmother started to train me in energy work, Reiki, shamanic journeying, astral travel, meditation and crystal therapy which helped to deepen my spiritual awareness and healing gifts.
My training in the tantric arts began when I met my first mentor at the age of 20. He introduced me to the spiritual side of sexual energy by engaing in breath work exercises and meditation practices, healing sexual wounding from the past, and opening my heart to more love for self and community. I remember the profound realization of my Shakti power when I was able to experience a full body orgasm and ejaculation by simply doing "White" Tantric breathing exercises! After three weeks of intensive studies I was co-facilitating workshops with this elder Daka, doing tantric healings on people, counseling others and experiencing deep transformative session work. This was not the first time I was to be recognized for my healing gifts in the realms of sacred sexuality.
My path eventually lead me to be trained as an herbalist, a career I have developed over the last decade, creating an herbal body care company called www.EarthMamaGoods.com. I completed a three-year clinical internship program at The Rocky Mountain Center for Botanical Studies along with many apprenticeships and various trainings in the herbal arts. The focus of my herbal studies was on women’s reproductive healthcare, natural parenting, medicine making and shamanic journeywork. I have had the honor to study with some of the best herbalists and indigenous healers from all over the world, including native American and ancient Mayan shamans and curenderos.
Since then I have been teaching workshops and classes on herbalism, women’s mysteries, sacred menstruation, rites of passage for young girls, natural parenting, African dance and sacred sexuality for the past 8 years at festivals, gatherings, universities, local community resources and privately.
During that time I continued to study Tantra on my own, reading the works of Margo Anand, Charles and Caroline Muir, Deborah Sundhal, Penny Slinger and others. I developed a personal tantric practice as I healed many layers of sexual wounding from my past. My most potent experience as a healer comes from the transformations I have made in my own life. Eventually I came to train with Charles Muir who opened up new doorways for my fated career as a Dakini. I am now a Tantric Educator with the Source School of Tantric Yoga and am continuously pursuing more advanced studies.
Currently I offer private tantric education sessions and love coaching, sexual health counseling and shamanic energy work in Ashland, Oregon. I continue to teach workshops throughout the west coast as I tour with my performance group "The Tantric Circus" and host an ecstatic dance ritual called PUJAFUNK. I experience Tantra through all my relations via breath, heart connection and channeling my sexual juice into my creative endeavors. It is my absolute joy to serve you as a living presence of the Goddess!
